OUR HERITAGE
Businessman George Mamidakis was born in Crete. Tireless and insightful, with a deep love for his homeland, he bought the Minos Beach Hotel at Mirabello Bay in 1974. At the time, it was the first deluxe hotel in Greece. He went on to acquire two more hotel complexes in the following years. A multifaceted personality, George Mamidakis stood out for his values, decency, gallantry, acumen, honesty, and inexhaustible humor.
A dynamic woman from a family of hoteliers, Aristea Mamidakis worked alongside her husband throughout their careers. She was strong and gentle, sweet and demanding, generous and practical, instilling the values of family, morality, and dynamic creativity in her two daughters, Marilena and Gina.
The family business continues to inspire for its entrepreneurial spirit, vision for hospitality excellence, love and support for the arts, and charitable contribution.
OUR CEO
A longtime hotelier, who studied Economics and Business at the University of Athens, received an MSc from the University of Manchester, and completed specialized hotel courses at Cornell University and Harvard Business School, Gina Mamidakis proudly upholds her family’s business. Guided by strong family values, she always leads by example, combining her rich experience in hospitality with diverse life experiences, becoming the driving force behind bluegr’s long-lasting success.
Focusing on Nature and Anthropos, and pulling key principles from the Stoic philosophers, Gina Mamidakis has developed a signature leadership style revolving around the design of space – living space, thinking space, creative space, dreaming space, and being space. As an aspiring holistic leader and parent, her wish is to gently pass on the torch to the next generation, with modesty and honesty.
Bluegr, under her creative vision, stands on solid foundations and core values such as Ethos, Integrity, Accountability, and Justice, which have played a fundamental role in the company’s success and perfectly reflect Gina Mamidaki’s commitment to hospitality excellence and sustainable growth. Staying true to her mantra “If we are what we repeatedly do, excellence is not an act but a habit”, bluegr has become a pioneer in “barefoot luxury”, prioritizing sustainability, simplicity, innovation, and authentic guest experiences.
Guided by a constant thirst for knowledge and a wholehearted belief in the inextricable connection between hospitality and culture, she established the George and Aristea Mamidakis Foundation, continuing to honor her parents’ love for culture and philanthropy. Through projects and initiatives Gina Miamidakis promotes and supports art, culture, education, and Crete’s rich heritage. Each of the Foundation’s projects and initiatives further examine the relationship between localism and contemporary theoretical and visual explorations that are topics that inspire her, all while placing Crete in the centre of the international cultural map.
